THE CURE - UNTITLED DOCUMENTARY FILM SERIES - PART 1/4

Musik

Part one of a Documentary Film Series about The Cure. Somewhat chronological but jumps around. UPDATED VIDEO with some more footage here: iddown.info/the/joXLpZ-LmbKPa7M/video.html
This is a IDdown-sourced assembly of interviews, concerts, videos, TV appearances and behind-the-scenes releases. It started just as a side-project / experiment to see how it all went together, and grew. It's not intended to be definitive, just one perspective from inside a really fun & inspiring rabbit hole. If you'd like to know the source of any particular clip, comment and I'll post the link.
For educational purposes only. It's not important.

Robert Smith is a snob.. That is what happens with people being so anti-snob... they become a snob.... Like the music... But a interview with a Japanese girl with an old Robert Smith.. His.. Shy and... Eyes wandering around... and being anoying a knowing better... Sold me... Robert Smith has become a snob he did not wanted to be.

I have seen this band so many times... the best was my 18th birthday at Glastonbury in 87... storms all day, the Cure came on stage and the sun came out, then the steam off the crowd was magical in the light show and made Forest even better. The earlier quicker versions of The Forest are my favorite The best band ever. Life long fan. The memories from the concerts, CD’s and the bass. 👍

In some ways, people forget Robert's actually a hell of a guitar player. I think it tends to get overlooked that he does have legit chops when he gets the chance to explore the fretboard. He doesn't shred, but doesn't need to. He has a flourish & character of his own.

The first batch of uploads were 720p because they took a long time to upload and I wasn't sure anyone would watch them (or if they'd get blocked in a week). Then Part 2 got retroactively blocked because of music video content (Lullaby) so I redid it and uploaded it in HD. Then I uploaded part 4, which was in HD. There is another version of Part 1 in HD with more content in the link in the description.

Thank you for finding this. The two greatest songs The Cure ever did came back to back: "The Love Cats" and "Let's Go to Bed" (loved how Bear was able to piece them together at the 23:00 mark). There had been debate that Michael Hutchins of INXS was the most carasmatic lead singer in a 80's band. Hands down it was Robert Smith: Because no one knew he would appear with short hair or long hair, or with makeup or without it. Not to mention he had a powerful voice and Smith even sat in as guitarist for Siouxie and The Bandshees (Bear needs to do a documentary about them-Siouxie Sioux was one of two female singers that kicked ass in the 80's) in the mid-80's.

I didn't make it very far beyond "The Head On The Door" before The Cure and I parted ways. But the records that came before that are *still* stamped on my soul, and always will be. The first four notes of "Faith" *still* give me the chills, and I am immediately transported back to my youth. Even just mentioning it here will probably guarantee that I end up listening to it straight after. When someone has touched your soul, you never forget them.

Have you sought out any companies to purchase and/or companies/networks to distribute this for you? If not...you should. I’m a huge Cure fan, but aside from that I’ve worked in film and TV for the last 25 years in both production, but mostly in post-production as a music supervisor who chooses the music content with the director/producers and then clears...or rather negotiates the rights, fees, terms needed to obtain the licenses for each song used in the film/TV or other projects. Given this is an unofficial doc and on IDdown for now, I’m gonna guess that the songs have not been licensed and paid for, which as I’m sure you know, makes it unlawful for this to even be able to be viewed by myself or anyone on IDdown or any other viewing platform out there. Don’t worry, I’d never report something like this because I’d hope others like myself might see this and see the potential for greater viewership, which might entice someone with deep pockets to buy and distribute it for you. I’d suggest submitting it to film festivals (especially ones like SXSW, which cater more towards music driven projects, given its original roots), and seeing if you can get accepted to any. More often than not, if one picks it up, other festivals will see that and also pick it up, and then hopefully you’ll be going on a little tour of a bunch of film festivals and being able to pick and choose amongst a few buyers rather than having only one option. But in the event that you choose to do that, you’ll need to clear the music in this film for a minimum of a film festival licenses, which will need to be obtained for each song used and for each individual film festival. These licenses are much cheaper than the ones you will pay for if the film gets purchased, distributed and released of course, but they can add up, depending on how many film festivals you get into and based on how many songs you have in the film. My advice would be to hire a music supervisor to negotiate the licenses up front for a reasonable to low fees, with the broadest terms and rights you can get, so that it increases your odds of the film being purchased and distributed. Basically, if you do that, and the purchaser / distributor knows that the songs have all been negotiated and are finite up front, you will have a much greater success rate of having the film purchased and distributed. One of the main reasons companies shy away from purchasing and distributing something like this is simply because it’s too costly to license the music once it is known you have a distribution deal for the film to be released. Good luck! Hope to see it out there soon!

i always see in the interviews of 70s 80s 90s and then , that the journalists ask the artists about the way of composition, as if you want to see "the grain of sand in the eye" , the details of the formula, but i i think is very simple for an artist, is flowing and navigate in the dark of your thoughs and between breath and moving you find something you like and materialize it in sounds. for the other hand the "normal" people sometimes cant see it. PD. i am peruvian so maybe there is mistakes in my texting.

I'll admit, it was 1983, I was 16, Let's Go to Bed came on the radio and I immediately went out and bought the single. The twelve inch. I liked it so much, I went out and bought Pornography. Holy shit, I was shocked, didn't seem like the same band. I listened to Pornography for a week and decided I liked that Cure better than the Lets Go to Bed and Love Cats Cure. I was never ever disappointed by mad Bob and his Barmy Army though, and as a bonus he introduced me to so much other good music through interviews...Joy Division, Siouxsie, Wire. God, I grew to love Wire with an almost uncontrollable passion. I'd like to think I was one of the people who got it, and through the decades when I met someone I clicked with I'd almost always find out they were also a Cure fan. So there.

i was surprised it was added to my playlist...! I think it sounds really good but prefer analogue at start.. but its always better in retro! i started listening to CURE in early 80s cos i was into Warsaw & loved the rawness of guitars post punk..it was a love hate relationship with Cure cos i liked them being obscure then.. cos it was cool when being a UNI student in 80s! Its different when you leave in my case 3 Degrees & enter a profession you change as a person cos REAL LIFE hits you hard & you have to adapt! Looking back now i still admire em' & forgive them for their Iffy songs..you mellow as you get older! Thanks CURE..Love ya x

Why did this just pop now in my recommandations? This is just awesome, as an old Cure fan that gave me chills to feel this time travel. It gives me back so much great souvenirs, when I watched and rewatched all the things I could record on VHS. Some of the pictures here, I lived in front of my tv (that show with the dresses for Boys don't cry was to make fun of a french band and still hilarious, I remember the next day at school, everyone spoke about it). Thank you, so much, just brilliant! Edit: je viens de percuter que je parle comme un débile en anglais alors que tu es français.
